Terms of use
DRAFT – for legal review, not published. As of 22 Oct 2026. To be approved by the provider and reviewed legally. Placeholders "[OFFEN: …]" ("open") must be resolved before publication. The German version is binding.
1. Provider and scope
The provider of the "Horento" app (Android, iOS), its server and this website is Markus Bittner (BittProduction), Wiesenstraße 28, 79367 Weisweil, Germany, e-mail bittnerproduction@gmail.com (see imprint). These terms apply to using the app and the related account. How we process personal data is described in the privacy policy.
2. What Horento is for – and what it is not
Horento is an application for documenting medicine intakes and for reminders of points in time that are based solely on information entered by the user (e.g. from the package leaflet or a doctor's instruction). Horento does not calculate doses, gives no therapy, dosing or intake recommendations, does not check interactions and makes no diagnoses. Horento does not replace medical or pharmaceutical advice.
The app is no substitute for medical advice. The app's hints ("according to your entries, at the earliest at …") are based only on the rules you entered yourself. Make decisions about medicines according to the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist and the package leaflet. In detail: purpose statement.
3. Account and minimum age
To synchronise between devices and to share groups you need an account (e-mail address and password). You must be at least 16 years old; you confirm this when you register. Give correct details when registering, keep your password secret and do not pass your account to third parties. An account is intended for one person; use by professional care services, clinics or similar institutions is not intended.
Your health data is encrypted on your device. We cannot read it and therefore cannot restore it. Keep the recovery key that the app shows you once. If you lose all paired devices and the recovery key, the encrypted data can no longer be read by you or by us.
4. Your entries and your responsibility
You are responsible for the correctness and completeness of your entries, in particular amounts, intervals, maximums, schedules, and expiry and shelf-life details. Check the app's information against the package leaflet and medical instructions. The app cannot detect input errors and may also be wrong or fail to show hints because of errors, wrongly set clocks, disabled notifications or missing synchronisation. Do not rely on the app alone.
You may only record data about other people (e.g. children, relatives) if you care for them or they agree. If you share a group, you are responsible for only inviting people who may see this data. You must not misuse the app, in particular must not attempt to attack the server or other accounts or to circumvent the encryption.
5. Free use, Pro and subscriptions
Horento can be used with a free basic scope. Log, waiting times, maximums, reminders, expiry and opened-pack warnings, data export and account deletion are always free. "Pro" unlocks additional features and higher limits (e.g. sharing with other accounts, more people, groups and devices, reports and statistics). The current scope is shown in the app.
Pro is available as a monthly subscription, an annual subscription (possibly with a trial period) and a one-time purchase. The store (Apple App Store, Google Play) shows the prices before you buy; they may differ by country and currency. For orientation in Germany (incl. VAT, as of 10/2026): €2.99 per month, €19.99 per year, €49.99 one-time – the price shown in the store applies. The purchase is processed and paid via your store account; the store's terms also apply. [OFFEN: have the contracting party of the purchase (provider or store) and the store terms reviewed legally.] The purchase applies to your Horento account on all devices on which you are signed in.
Subscriptions renew automatically for the chosen period unless you cancel in time. You cancel via the store (subscription management in your Apple ID settings or Google Play), not in the app or by e-mail to us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period; until then you can keep using Pro. When Pro ends, your data is kept and stays readable; the features and limits of free use apply again. Deleting your Horento account does not end a store subscription – cancel it in the store first. Refunds are governed by the rules of the respective store.
6. Right of withdrawal for digital content
As a consumer you generally have a 14-day right of withdrawal for contracts on digital content and digital services. Under section 356(5) of the German Civil Code (BGB) it can expire early if performance began with your express consent and you confirmed that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal. Because the purchase is processed via the store, exercising withdrawal and refunds follow the terms and procedure of the respective store. [OFFEN: define the withdrawal instruction, the model withdrawal form and the consent/confirmation flow at purchase legally; clarify the role of the stores.]
7. Availability and changes to the service
We strive for trouble-free operation but do not owe uninterrupted availability of the server; maintenance and outages are possible. The app also works locally without a connection. We may further develop and change the app and its features as far as this is reasonable for you and core functions and services already paid for are not substantially restricted. Safety-relevant functions (see 5) stay free.
8. Liability
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, under the Product Liability Act, for fraudulently concealed defects, for guarantees given and where mandatory law provides for liability. For slightly negligent breach of essential contractual obligations (obligations whose fulfilment is necessary for the proper performance of the contract and on which you may regularly rely) liability is limited to the typical, foreseeable damage. Otherwise liability for slight negligence is excluded. Liability for loss of data is limited to the typical recovery effort that would have arisen with regular backups (data export, several paired devices, recovery key). Statutory rights for defects of digital products remain unaffected. [OFFEN: have the liability clauses reviewed legally, also with regard to the health-related nature of the service.]
9. Term, termination, deleting the account
The usage relationship for the account has no fixed term. You can end it at any time by deleting your account in the app (More → Account → Delete account); before that you can export your data. We then delete the data as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or terminate the account for good cause, in particular in case of misuse or serious breaches of these terms or if an account has not been used for a long time (see privacy policy 3.1); you then keep the opportunity to export as far as possible and reasonable. You cancel running subscriptions in the store (see 5). The statutory right of both sides to terminate for good cause remains unaffected.
10. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms with effect for the future if there is an objective reason (e.g. new features, change in the law, adaptation to changed service providers) and the change is reasonable for you. We point you to the new version in the app beforehand and ask for your renewed agreement at the next start. If you do not agree, you can delete your account; local use without an account is unaffected. [OFFEN: have the consent procedure and deadlines reviewed legally, in particular regarding section 308 no. 5 BGB and the law for digital products.] A change to the scope of processing health data always requires renewed consent (see privacy policy 7).
11. Governing law, venue, dispute resolution
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer protection provisions of that country. For consumers the statutory place of jurisdiction remains unaffected. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board (see imprint).
12. Final provisions
If a provision is invalid, the others remain valid; the statutory rule applies instead. If the German version and a translation differ, the German version applies. Last updated: [OFFEN: date of publication]; text version in the app: 2026-10-10 [OFFEN: assign a new version on publication].
